Every Tirthankar is recognised by a symbol, called a chinh or lanchhan: Rishabhdev by the bull, Ajitnath by the elephant, Sambhavnath by the horse, Abhinandan Swami by the monkey, Sumatinath by the kraunch bird, Padmaprabhu by the red lotus, and Mahavir Swami by the lion.
